Changes afoot at Carnoustie links

The Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee (CGLMC) has appointed the renowned golf course architectural company Mackenzie & Ebert to advise upon the improvement of all three courses at the famous links.

A number of holes on the Championship Course will be considered in the review and proposals will be drawn up to redesign six6 greens on the Burnside Course.

However, the immediate focus will be on the Buddon Course. The CGLMC has commenced the construction of a Pro Centre for visiting golfers which lies on part of the  first hole of the Buddon, resulting in the opening hole being removed from the layout. The first phase of the project will include the addition of two holes on land at the far end of the course which will increase the par of the layout from 66 to 68. There is potential for the new holes to be developed with great ecological benefit through the creation of wetlands, ponds and new areas of heathland.

This commission followshis company's design work over the last five years at four of the nine Open Championship venues: Turnberry (for the 2009 Open), Royal St. George's (for this year's Open), Royal Lytham and St. Annes (for the 2012 Open) and Royal Troon.
